Welcome to the evaluation challenge!
What? To write an evaluation of a chosen speech found on the internet in 500 words or less.
When? There will be a new challenges periodically.
Why? So that everyone can learn about speech evaluations. Seeing how other people approach an evaluation can be enlightening. Also, some people will see areas of a speech delivery that need work that other people don’t.
How? Check out the sidebar on the left. Subscribe to the main site RSS feed (or twitter feed) and look for a post (tweet) marking the beginning of a new challenge. Watch the speech. Write your evaluation in 500 words or less. Submit your entry using the form for that weeks challenge. Comment on the speech.
Can I submit my evaluation as a Word/PDF/etc. document? No. Currently I am accepting plain text submissions using the form on this site.
Do I have to be a Toastmaster to participate? Not at all. Everyone is welcome to participate, even past World Champions of public speaking
While you can learn a lot reading other participants evaluations, you will be best served if you have a go as well.
Does the speech have to be a Toastmasters speech? No. Any speech will do.
What are the guidelines for the evaluation? There are no general guidelines although a speech may be for a specific purpose which will be noted. New ideas and approaches are always welcomed.
Can I enter more than 1 evaluation for a single speech? Wow! You have a lot of free time. Please limit your entries to one.
Can I change my entry after I have entered? Please make sure you are happy with what you submit when you do it. If you realize that something may be taken the wrong way, please use the contact form to let me know. I am flexible. If you need to change it then it can be changed.
Can I discuss the speech on a separate forum? Sure. Many Toastmasters hang out on the Toastmasters Prime Google group. I will endeavor to link to those discussions as appropriate, or incorporate them here. If there are other places, let me know and I will see what I can do.
Can I evaluate my own speech? Sure. Having the speakers’ insight can be quite illuminating.
Do I have to participate every challenge? Not at all. Please only do so when time allows. This is primarily a fun exercise for the learning opportunity.
Can you please evaluate my speech? Sure. Send me a link to the speech. 10 minutes or less in length. I will be the final arbiter of which speeches will be evaluated.
What is the prize? Currently there is no prize. I will look into doing this if there is interest.
