Ah Counter Review

May 03

Ah Counter is an app for the iPhone for counting those pesky filler words such as um, uh, you know, etc.

It does the job of counting these filler words very well.  It will also count an optional word of the day.  Very handy for Toastmaster meetings.

The layout is easy to use and intuitive, with lots of space between the speech bubbles.  The colors are not what I would choose, but they are easy to distinguish.  You can instantly see the count of each filler word next to the associated bubble.  I would like the Word of the Day to have been a bubble too,  although I realize that the size of the bubble would be variable, especially for those sesquipedalian’s out there.

My main request for the next version of this app is to support multiple speakers.  Right now it will capture filler words for one speaker.  I would like to be able to enter all of the speakers for a meeting up front, and then select from them during a meeting.  Perhaps a landscape mode would facilitate this.  I think removing the title would also reclaim some space.

Other features I would like to see in a future version would be saving the results of each meeting and being able to send the details to an email address.

Ah Counter serves a simple purpose well.  With some additional features I can see it being an indispensible tool for every Toastmaster.

Check out Ah Counter for the iPhone.
